The Magic of New Mexico
Taos, sitting at 6,969’ in the high desert of Northern New Mexico, is a unique place like no other in the world. You either get it or you don’t; and quite likely, if The Mountain decides she wants you, you’ll have a hard time leaving for long. My first adventures in Taos were in my early twenties. The Land of Enchantment left an indelible mark on my heart and soul: the historic adobe architecture, the Taos Pueblo; the Rio Grande, the mountains, the diverse community; the art, the green chile: all of it. Many years and three kids later, I felt the Mountain call again, and with that, decided to pick up and move. It’s been some of the best years of my life.
Our Northern New Mexico Farm is just north of Taos, nestled at the base of the Latir Wilderness. The Latir Peaks serve as a stunning backdrop to our farm, reminding us always of the greatness of mother nature. Every day on this land is truly a blessing. Our hearts are home here. This little farm has a rich history and is nothing short of magical. Once a hippie commune in the late 60’s, the residents planted an apple orchard that is still going strong, and provides an incredible source of food for the honeybees in the Spring. The old traditional adobe house on the farm was built circa 1940’s. Serving as a small family home, it is now slowly transforming into the Satva Studio for all of our production. The soil here is rich and has been organically and regeneratively cared for since the hippies first broke ground for the food gardens for their community. The water that brings life to the farm comes from a historic New Mexico acequia system and is sourced from a pure mountain spring in the canyon above the land.
After being in operation as an organic community supported vegetable, flower and herb farm since the early 90’s, our dream of growing hemp on our land has finally come to fruition, thanks to the recent passing of the 2018 Farm Bill. We are so excited to be a part of this movement, to be bringing hemp to New Mexico, and to be transitioning our farm to a small craft cannabis(hemp) farm. Our hemp farm and production studio have primarily been in Colorado for the past few years, as we were focused on pursuing our dreams of expanding into hemp farming and needed to be in a state where it was legal for us to do so. Colorado has been good to us, and we have learned so much, however we are beyond excited to be able to take what we’ve learned and return to our community, our families, and our Enchanted Roots of NM. The Mountain always calls you back!
